REMOVE FORWARD LANDING GEAR WHEEL AND TIRE ASSEMBLY
INSPECTION OF WHEELS
Before removing landing gear and wheel
assembly, inspect wheel for the following
Cracks, corrosion, and deterioration of finish.
Security of hardware holding wheel halves
Two cap plugs in outer wheel half.
Loose or deteriorated sealant.
Inspect the wheel for gereral condition.
(Refer to TM 1-1500-204-23.)
Wheel can explode if axle nut is
removed while tire is inflated. Deflate
tire fully before starting removal
Procedure is same for removing
inboard or outboard wheels on right or
left gear. Left forward outboard wheel
is shown here.
Let air out of tire (1) by slowly removing valve
core (2) from valve (3).
Remove retaining ring (4), sleeve bushing (5),
cotter pin (6), and axle nut (7).
Seal can be cut on axle thread. Do not
drag seal on thread while removing
Bearing and seal may fall out when
wheel is removed.
Hold brake disk (8) so it does not drop. Remove
